The MC, Casey, is awesome. She eats her life, marches to her own drummer and relies on herself and her friends to overcome any obstacles. She inspires love and light everywhere she goes, except maybe in her best friend's girlfriend. Additionally Beth wrote my all-time favorite secondary character in Ben. She hit every note exactly right with him as he traversed his grief from the loss of his soul mate and went on a journey that left him with something to live for anyway. Grab this book with both hands and take a big ole bite!
Without even meaning to, I took today off and ended up devouring Eating Life with no regrets. Well, maybe one: I don't know when I'll get another morsel from this talented author! ALL her books are excellent, honest, slice-of-life portrayals of interesting characters, but this one took the cake! You'll find yourself inwardly rooting for them, crying for their hardships, and laughing at the sheer genius of their portraiture as they make their way through the story. And, in the end, you'll be thankful you tagged along for a bit.If you're hungry for honest character portraiture in modern writing, then help yourself to this title. You'll come back for seconds -- or fourths! -- by snapping up her other titles, too.
I have a rule. After a year of spending over a hundred bucks a month on book downloads, I joined Kindle Unlimited and promised myself I would only buy one book per month outside their offerings. Eating Life was my January purchase. I enjoyed this book so thoroughly that after finishing it I immediately downloaded another of her novels, The Love Sucks Club (also a 5 star).This story touches on so many aspects of what it is to be in mid-life: the ruts, dreams, losses, and vision of the shrinking future and our desire to fill it with what we finally realize matters before we reach our final destination.I'm a rule breaker, and I don't care. I loved this novel.
Marvelous read. Beth, once again, captivated my complete attentIon. It's nice to read a book so well written and edited that I'm not pulled away with a bunch of errors. The storyline is so free it made me jealous at times. It definitely brought this gypsy soul's life into perspective. Thank you, Beth!
Running from everything, always on the go but you can't hide from love. Wow, what a great journey and with fascinating characters. Casey is an amazing, adventurous woman with a great personality. Of course she has flaws and that makes her even more interesting. I loved how she lives her life and I liked her attitude. This was a journey I wish I could travel with Casey. The story was heartwarming, hilarious, sad, passionate and inspiring. Everything is very vividly described. A true treasure and just perfect. I highly recommend it.
A wild emotional ride through the lives of four intriguing (and at times incorrigible!) characters. They are definitely eating life and you will be devouring pages. It was a pleasure to get to know Beth Burnett's deeply felt, fun-loving voice.
I loved this book! I loved the characters, the lighthearted moments, the heartbreaking moments, the "oh wow I didn't see that coming" moments and the story's overall affirmation of living an authentic life.
