This is a very good book--thoughtful, provocative, instructive. Having said that, there is nothing new here, nothing that hasn't already been said before, in "How to Win Friends and Influence People," by Dale Carnegie. Carnegie's book is the "Bible" on how to build trust, sell the right way, manage effectively, resolve customer and employee disputes, and succeed in a highly-competitive and often hostile world. In the '80s, while working for a large mid-western company and assigned the task of changing the culture of our large retail organization, I must have read a hundred books on selling, negotiating, problem solving, how to get along with the boss, management, dispute resolution, etc., etc., and the basics were all the same, and available in Carnegie's marvelous book. Having said that, I recommend this book. It's pointed, it's filled with example after example on how to build trust--the cement of long-term client relationships--and it gets at the heart of the matter: to be successful, you must learn how to listen effectively, be transparent in your motives, be flexible and open to change, be dedicated and driven, and most of all, be humble. Humility is the key to self-control. Final note: I know people who read book after book looking for some secret message that will enable them to leap over mountains and achieve great success, career satisfaction, and personal achievement. They read books such as this one, miss the timeless lessons being illustrated, and move on to another book. Stop: what you're seeking is right here. This book has all the Dale Carnegie essentials: read it, study it, ponder it, and remember, it's not the destination that counts, it's the journey.

Sure, be the trusted advisor, someone who never gets anything wrong. LOL The philosophy is good, but quite hard in practice. The other key take away is that you always work for your client's best interest. That's how you build trust. I'd say more important than that is you SHOW how your actions benefit them even at your own expense.Otherwise, they won't even realize how good they have it

I was referred to this book by a colleague. As a consultant, I need to provide the best possible service to my clients. This book is really basic. I found that most of its recommendations were things I already do and have done for years. It provides reliable advice on how to establish and maintain relationships with business associates. It does not provide much advice on how to prioritize and place needed boundaries on client contacts. Good but not great starter book.

This book is right on target. Anyone who desires to develop lasting relationships with clients will want to read this book. From the outset the authors hook the reader by establishing the three basic skills that a trusted advisor must have: (1) earning trust; (2) giving advice effectively; and (3) building relationships. And it gets better as the book progresses. The concept of building trust is brought home in a succinct equation: T = (C + R + I)/S where T is trust, C is credibility, R is reliability, I is intimacy and S is self-orientation.I have found this simple equation to be most useful in gauging the strength of relationships built over the years. It also explains how frustratingly easy it is to lose the trust we've built up. Those who have difficulty maintaining long term solid relationships with friends or clients would do well to check their self-orientation. It is highly likely, if you're honest with yourself, that you are pretty much motivated by your own self-interest and that will come through to clients and friends - regardless of the words you speak or protestations to the contrary.I wish I had come across this book (and the follow-on book by Charles Green, Trust-based Selling) years ago. It would have explained much about the success I had with clients as well as the failures that I suffered. This book will move the successful mentor/coach from the level of conscious incompetent to conscious competent and on to the ultimate goal of unconscious competent.

This book lights a pathway to a service that leaders and business owners need and don't easily find, the wise, honest, and trusted inner circle advisor. We have no shortage of consultants, professional services, and various fiduciary relationships, but there are few on the level that the authors describe. The trusted advisor is grown over time on a foundation of talent experience, and education, but in the end is more than that; more than just a consultant or technician. It is someone who surpasses all of that with a special combination of care, honesty, character, and wisdom. It is something to work to become, but does not come with a framed certificate or degree.

Not all garden advice is good: gardening advice is full of pseudo science. This book address the issue.This book is well organized, so in my case I was skipping through the book instead of reading it straight through. It is divided into chapters that include soils, water, pests, mulch, flowers, trees, vegetables and fruit, and lawn. It is presented simply, sorting advice in each chapter into good advice, advice that'd debatable, and advice that's just wrong. In a glance you can quickly tell the value of a certain piece of advice, and then go on to read the details.I did wish they would site specific studies and articles to back up their stance one everything, but that would also make it not as user friendly and is probably not of interest to most people. (An appendix would be nice.)

This is a great reference. As such, it would be more useful as a searchable E-book. Download the Kindle version instead on the hard copy (save some money) and you can search and also cut and paste sections to share with other gardeners. The font is way too small. I borrowed reading glasses and still could barely read the text. One more reason to purchase the E-version.

This book is basically a rehash of his two previous books. Not much new information if you have read the other two books. This is not to say that it is not worth reading, but the information is presented in a bit more depth in the other two books.

Good book for beginners. It is not for "Advanced" Gardeners, but that is ok. It is still a good book to read through and reference.

Great book! sorts through much of the myth and old tales about soil and gardening. Very useful, but I need to get a soiol test.

Lots of excellent ideas on natural gardening not only for flowers but also for trees, grasses, etc. Gives balanced view of using organics as well as commercial products.

This is the 3rd book of his I've purchased. I like the other two a bit better, as I'm familiar with more of the topics in this book from wide-ranging horticultural reading for laypeople (eg horticultural magazines), but it's still worthwhile. I'd like to have a beer with him some time and learn more about his experiments, trials and tests.

I've been searching for this type of m/m book for the longest time, and FINALLY found it. It had everything I was looking for: a Renaissance feel with sword fights, a handsome King and a snarky young man who banter constantly, and of course the castles and taverns. The story was beautifully written and very easy to become absorbed in. Right from the start, I fell for Brandon (the clever and sarcastic young man with a questionable past) and I also fell for Alistair (the young King who just wants to be treated like everyone else.)Unlike a lot of m/m books that have sex scene after sex scene in great detail (that gets old after a while, and I avoid certain authors now because of it), this story's love scenes were tasteful and served a purpose to the actual story, and not just for smut purposes. Nicky James has become an auto-buy author for me just from reading this book alone, and I can't wait for the next book!I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a wonderful love story.

This story is well written, full of macho alpha strong men, and swoon worthy kissing that is fit for a king. If you enjoy reading a story where Knights of the Round Table meets forbidden love, then this tale is for you.

I couldn't stop reading once I started! The characters are compelling. It's impossible to not love them. Go and read.

Kings... castle guards... sword fights...I've never been a fan of medieval times-themed stories. In fact, if I hadn't been asked to review this book, I probably wouldn't have read it. However, that would depriving myself of an awesome piece of literature.I didn't even make it half-way through the first chapter before I was caught up in this tale told in first-person. As I read more and more of the story I was able to actually picture the settings and the characters as they interacted with each other. As I read about the situations Alistair and Brandon find themselves in, I can't help but wonder what I would do in their places.How would I deal with the smart-assed Brandon? Would I have the courage to do what Alistair does in the end? Would I be brave enough to follow my heart, consequences be damned, when my brain tells me it's wrong? That's how easy it is to get caught up with these two masterfully-written characters.I also like the fact that the sex scenes in this story aren't the typical blow-by-blow gratuitous wham-bam-thank-you-sam encounters. That gets really old really fast. There's more to being a gay couple than the bedroom. Gay people lead real lives. What sex scenes there are in this story are nicely written in order to give the reader a feel of tenderness between Alistair and Brandon.Would I read Something From Nothing again? Absolutely! Will I read the next book in the Tales from Edovia series, Buried Truths? Hell to the Yeah!If you haven't read either of these novels, I strongly encourage you to do so. You won't be disappointed. Brandon has to fight past not only other men, but the preconceived ideas people have, once he proves himself he still has the toughest battle yet to fight - the fight for his love and the fight for his life.Something from Nothing is a GFY story, not only do we get to see new love blossom, but we also get to see two people fight for what they believe, and are willing to give up their lives rather than their love for one another.Nicky James hit it out of the ballpark with SfN, I love it when a book allows me to fall in love with the characters. When I feel their pain, their love, and their fears....what else can I say, it takes tremendous courage to put a part of yourself out for the world to judge and I for one am so glad that Nicky took that leap and shared Brandon and Alistair with me (and all readers).Brandon and Alistair are characters that will stick with me, and I'm so happy that they will.

I can't PRAISE this book enough. It helped me the most out of ALL the grief books I've read. I believe the core concept here is "exactly what you have lost." EX: 1) Having a handicap child, you lost all your dreams hopes for the future of life w healthy child. 2) death of SPOUSE - you don't automatically think about what ALL that spouse DID. Cook, clean, run errands, keep check book, do the taxes.The author really talks the emotions that come later, after the funeral, after all the friends & family go home. He answers why you feel this way.

There are many books on grief available in the Christian marketplace..this is a very good one for those who want to understand both the grief process and the road to recovery. It is well written and comprehensive. I have a library of books on this topic and work as a Pastoral Counselor in this area. This particular book would be a great text for a class. It is also a good resource for pastors who may not have received training in this area and yet run into it daily in their ministry.If you need to understand your own process or that of another person, this book will help. It is easy to understand and one that you can refer to time and time again.

This book was a gift, I actually bought four of them for my cousins who lost their mom/ wife very unexpectedly. All were very grateful and have turned to the book on hard days like her birthday she would have celebrated with them. I felt this was better than flowers, they have this book for the tough year ahead.

If you have ever attended one of Norm's half-day seminars, this book is very similar to everything he covers. There is so much important information here, whether you are experiencing loss through death of a loved one, your own physical illness, a move, a job change, loss of a dream, loss of innocence, you name it. It will help you treat yourself and others with more compassion. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

This is the 2nd book I read by H. Norman Wright, and it helped me as much as the first. He is so encouraging and makes you feel so normal with everythng being experienced. This book applies to so many areas of life and is good to read in general, not just when you are suffering a loss. Sooner or later we are all going to lose something or someone, and this really is a wonderful resource to have for those times. I have read both of his books through several times and given them as gifts. Highly recommend!

This author writes with compassion and understanding and has helped me as I deal with my changed life after the death of my husband. I have even taken notes so I can refer back to specific areas of interest. It is written from a spiritual viewpoint which pleases me because I believe in the hereafter and am looking forward to seeing my husband again. I am so glad he had the assurance his sins were forgiven and that he is waiting on the other side for me.

Bought this book and Charlie Walton's "When there are no words..." as possible gifts to friends in shock and grief over the sudden death of an adult child. Scanned the two books quickly & decide to give the Walton to the guy and this one to his wife. "When there are no words" is a quite short and 'straight from the shoulder' account of Walton's struggles, observations and advice following the sudden, tragic death of his son. Wright's book is a good deal longer and deals with a whole range of "losses in life" situations. A basic Christian perspective is evident in the author's analysis and discussion of these matters.p.s. so far (about a month) haven't had a response to the books from either recipient, so I suggest care in prescribing them!
