It is the conviction of our own government in the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. King was a huge threat to the status quo and sealed his own fate when in 1967 he came out boldly against the Vietnam War and proposed the People's War on Poverty to end all poverty in America. This sealed his fate. Learn about who was in Memphis on that April day in 1968 and how James Earl Ray had been selected nearly a year earlier as the patsy. The 1999 trial has been kept in the dark by your government and the mainstream media. Just do a little research before ignoring my review. Building on the early work of Harold Weisberg, Philip Melanson and Mark Lane in the 70s and 80s, Pepper has devoted decades of his life to this case. He was involved in a mock trial on TV in 1993 which found James Earl Ray not guilty. Numerous witnesses began to come forward (some having been threatened and harassed) and told details of the plot that corroborate each other. Several witnesses independently identified a photograph of Raul, the Portuguese gun-runner who was Ray's handler. When Raul himself was finally located by Pepper's team, his family became defensive and stated that government agents were protecting them.The Memphis civil trial in 1999 is discussed in detail, as well as the corporate media's refusal to cover the event. That is, until the jury ruled that there was a conspiracy involving organized crime, the Memphis police and Military intelligence. Then the media went into overdrive to attack the King family as deluded conspiracy wackos. Gerald Posner was trotted out to do his usual disinformation show. Pepper analyzes Posner's book, KILLING THE DREAM, and its over-reliance on official denials and government documents, rather than actually interviewing real witnesses. Loyd Jowers' lawyer Lewis Garrison wanted Posner to be an expert witness at the civil trial, but he chose not to put himself under oath.Pepper also dissects the Justice Department's 2000 report essentially ignoring all the evidence from the civil trial and reaffirming the official story. This outcome shouldn't have surprised anyone. The official trial transcript (published as THE 13TH JUROR) is a must-read.Surprisingly, there isn't much here about J. Edgar Hoover. I also have my problems with witnesses like Dan Marvin, Beverly Oliver and Madeleine Brown (all of whom turn up in the JFK case, where their stories are also hard to swallow). But the case for conspiracy (both MLK and JFK) does not depend on them.

I was born in 1958 and have lived through JFK's, RFK's and MLK's assassinations. I have read dozens of books on the JFK case and came across some podcasts and this book regarding the MLK killing. Others have reviewed the book in detail and have spelled out much of the results. I am here to say that if you really want to know what goes on in the dark rooms of power and government, read this. MLK was an enemy of the state and had to be taken out. The network of surveillance, payoffs, recruitment and diversion are all interwoven and spelled out.I won't try to tie it in with JFK, but there are similarities and a couple of things that will remind you of that coup d'état.

I think this is an extremely important book for everyone to read. I think that even if you end up not believing the authors point of view, it is still really important to consider the possibilities, especially in relation to other events that have occurred in this country since Martin Luther King's death.This book seeks to provide actual evidence where possible, and corroborating testimony where possible, rather than just theories and "maybes". Most people in this country will not have heard this additional information. Most people in this country will not have known that there was a civil trial. Of course, most people in this country don't even know who was accused of killing King.I disagree with some of the authors historical perspective on the swapping of religious power for economic over the ears of history, but I am no scholar, so that will just have to remain my opinion.This book is much more than a "conspiracy theory" text. It should be regarded as historically important information that should be provided to all citizens.

This could have been fascinating book but the author clearly needed to fill a certain amount of pages so basically rewrite the first of the book into the second half, then preached to everyone. He was capitalizing on knowing Dr. King and his family as much as possible and plugged his other work as much as possible, while making James Earl Ray sound as sweet and innocent as possible even though whether he was the assassin or not he certainly commuted other crimes!

any and everyone who is interested in history period should read this book, it corrects what we've been taught i school and still be taught about who killed martin luther king, this is a great book, it rewrites history, but sadly not the history thats being reached to our kids in school right now. Must have book, this is not a book written on one mans opinion or accusations, its a book written on years of research and facts... i recommend

Awesome book for surveyors but you can work with an older version aswell.

The book looks like it had water damage to it. The pages all have waves in them.

It's got a cover alot of pages and all words. No pictures. Its exactly what i didnt want bit its exactly what i needed for this class.

Online version is difficult to work with. Online support when problems are encountered is unresponsive.

I avoided buying this book in the hope that the author's later works would cover the material, but I eventually decided to buy it. I'm really glad I did. It forms the foundation of the later works, and I believe that it's essential reading for practicing or aspiring System/s Architects. It was a challenging read for me because of the content bias towards space and electronic systems (my experience lies in corporate, software and social systems) but I also appreciated the insight into these other system domains.

I even didn't believe that this great piece of art will get in my hands and I'll be able to read it.Very philosophic book and it will be interested for those who wants to see where from started the long way of software architecting.

One of the best System Architecting books out there. Required by USC for their MSSARE degree in SAE549 course. It has a ton of information and would guide you to become a good Systems Architect/Engineer.

Rechtin is no stranger to architecting complex systems. Most of his insights are drawn from his 40 years experience as the chief architect for NASA during the moon landings and a long list of defence and civil positions.The book covers a wide range of topics germane to architects as a field and profession: boundaries and interfaces, information systems, the challenge of ultra-quality, economics and public policy, AI, assessing architectures are some of the sections.The style of the book is alomost memoir-like. He groups his experiences into three main headings with many sub headings. Each item within the sub headings rate 2-4 pages with some heuristic attached. It's a fascinating read because it's a rare glimpse into the mind of someone whose job it was to "keep the entire system in his head". He basically had to answer and implement a system that solved the question, "How do we get three men to the moon and back before the end of the decade?".The two most useful aspects are his in depth treatment on the economics and politics of architecting and a multitude(over 100) heuristics. For instance,"the greatest **leverage** in system architecting is at the interfaces" "complex systems will develop and evolve within and overall architecture much more rapidly if there are stable intermediate forms than if there are not" "profit is a matter of definition and cost is not an absolute" "there is no such thing as immaculate communication"and my favourite"the time in days, T, to obtain an approval requiring N signatures is approximately T = 2^(N-2).The book has been in print for some time and many of the examples regarding designing jet propulsion systems, fail-safe computers for the moon or road networks may not be easily related to accounting, manufacturing or web systems. But as a blueprint for a profession that is growing in importance, it lays an anectdotal foundation that will be hard to match.

Systems architecting is the use of architecting tools and techniques (e.g.,analysis, insights, heuristics metaphors, practice, ethics and modus operandi) to systems (collections of different things which collectively produce results not producible by the components, alone. This is the first and most fundamental of three books on the subject. The second extends architecting to software, progressive modeling, politics, and architects in industry. The third uses the art of systems architecting in structuring organizations.

This is where it all began. The stead slow slide into cost overruns and delays. Although there are many good insights in the book the practice that has evolved out of this work is less than positive.

Haunting, chilling tale of two innocent girls who sadly experienced an unimaginable nightmare. Ron Franscell painted a vivid picture of my childhood growing up on Casper's Glendale Avenue in windy, wild Wyoming....kick the can and all. Ten years old at the time and still fresh in my mind, is the memory of a walk home from school with spunky, energetic little Amy about a week before that dark night.I also clearly remember crossing the eerie, creepy Fremont Canyon Bridge as a child even before the tragic night. Ron's experiences of a night spent in the Fremont Canyon classify him as a true journalist. The symbolism of the two stones added an element of poetic mysticism. My husband's unexplainable recent account of crossing the Fremont Canyon Bridge on a recent Wyoming fishing trip (He had no idea what had occurred there but saw the bench.) once again stirred up the memories, curiosity of that night, and led me to Ron's book. Agreed, that terrible dark night doused fear in the minds of Casper's parents and children, and forever changed the climate of Casper.On a final note, Becky's admirable courageous will to survive no doubt saved other Casper children from those two evil monsters. Thank you, Ron for revealing the story of these two never forgotten sisters, even though it must have been a difficult painful memory for you as well.

This is one of the best true crime books I have read. The description of how the older sister survived the night of the incident is chilling and incredibly described by the author. It was a gripping introduction that pulled me in and made me want to know everything about this tragedy. I also thought the author knowing the girls added a lot to the story. It's the kind of book that is so well written you want to read it again...but that's difficult to do because the story is so heartbreaking.

I work with someone that made a bad mistake when he was younger and was actually in prison with these guys, you will be happy to know these guys had it very rough in prison. This book was so haunting, I live in Casper and the area this happens will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Its still very chilling after all these years. Some say you can hear the girls crying late at night.

The Darkest Night is one of those rare books that you never forget. I've found myself thinking about the events in the book long after I finished reading.The author set the scene to take you into the time era in which this horrific crime took place. Ron Franscell did an amazing job at recounting the events that affected so many lives.Yet, there was one part of the book that I couldn't bear to read. The author included one of the killers 'manuscripts' or 'autobiography'. I call it complete and utter fantasy on the killer's part. I had to skip those pages. His delusions of life as he supposedly lived it, read like a dime store novel, and a bad one at that. I won't deduct a star because it's included in the book as some people might be interested in reading it. I wasn't one of them, but that isn't the authors fault.I still highly recommend this book. It was the best true crime book I've ever read.

This is an excellent true crime story about the abduction of two half sisters in Casper, Wyoming in 1973 and the aftermath of the crimes involved as it applied to the victims, their families, the perpetrators and the people of Casper. At the time of the heinous crime the author was a high school aged next door neighbor and friend of the girls involved and the book seems to be a labor of love, thoroughly researched and very skillfully written. After starting it, I found it very difficult to put down.I read this on my Kindle and I was disappointed by the lack of maps and photos. As it turns out, there were twelve photos in the original publication that were not transferred to the Kindle version. The author graciously emailed them to me after I contacted him via his Facebook page and expressed my disappointment. There were no maps but I went to Google maps and used the satellite mode to get a feeling for Casper, Wyoming and vicinity, including multiple photos of the Fremont Canyon Bridge.This is a great read and I highly recommend it.

I am not sure how I feel about the writing of THE DARKEST NIGHT: basically I feel the execution kind of wobbles and wanders. But this much is clear: read it. The story is heartbreaking and unforgettable, and certainly what author Franscell does is paint intimate portraits of four people on a devastating collision course. Not quite sure how effective the fifth person...the author himself is to this effort. Also felt at times that the writing was strained and reaching. But when he trusts this devastating story and allows it simply to tell itself, it is wrenching. I found Michael Carr's artwork especially moving. Bottom line, a powerful tale one wishes never had to be told. God bless and keep Amy and Becky.
