Before reading the first edition of this book, there was just so much I didn't know about safe teen driving. I was one of those parents who, having come up through school-sponsored/offered drivers' ed systems, I thought that was really all there was to it. With a 13-year-old son, who is seems similar to Tim Hollister's son Reid in so many ways, this was the best wake-up call I could have received. Tim walks parents through the tragic loss of Reid in 2006, and the way he channeled his grief into something so positive by helping all of us with existing and soon-to-be teen drivers: what to expect, and how we can all better parent our kids through the process. We all get to benefit from Tim's experience. The book is simple to follow, provides easy tips that make sense, but give you context -- not just "zero tolerance for alcohol or distracted driving," but what does that really mean? He gives clear, practical approaches to what makes teen driving so dangerous to begin with instead of focusing on the mechanics of how to operate a vehicle. He also gives steps for talking with and guiding your teenager through several processes that helped me to broach difficult subjects with my son. There's a whole list of great one-off tips in the back section too. If you've got a teen driver now or one within a few years of getting behind the wheel, this is an essential tool for parenting through those years. I've bought a few for friends too.

This was a well written book by the parent of a young teenager who died in an automobile accident here in Connecticut This is a "must read" book. You will help your teenagers live for another day.

Spend the money and your time reading this book, well worth it! I know I will keep it as a reference!
