We enjoy camping in state parks and on federal lands. Our first atlas was the Benchmark for New Mexico and is most useful, with camping and recreation information arranged adjacent to the relevant area map. Unfortunately, the Delorme series, while also providing excellent maps is not as useful. Scant information is included in just a few pages at the beginning and end of the guide. Where Benchmark details description of the facility, address, hours, # sites, directions, phone numbers and websites, the Delorme offers only charts listing parks with limited information.While the relative lack of information is disappointing, the grouping of all that information in the front and back of the atlas is the most frustrating. To plan a visit to a particular area requires using the map references in the charts in the front of the atlas to find parks and attractions in that area. With my Benchmark guides, the information is there at a glance.
The best source for topographic maps of Oklahoma I have found.The computerized ones... well, suitable for most purposes but not something for a bugout bag.This is too large to fit in my bugout bag. I planned to put it in the lid pocket, but it's a tad big for that. So it's staying in the vehicle and in an emergency, a few seconds with a razor blade can remove a page and put it in my field gear map case.I haven't knocked down a star for it being larger than I wanted because I am a realist and understand that there are limitations on size. Let's face it, all the topographic maps for an entire state in one book... can't beat that with a stick. And if you buy individual quadrangle topographic maps, you'll definitely pay much more.
Great for anyone who ventures away from their dorm room for extended periods of time. A must and secondary map source for whitewater kayakers and or hikers alike in any US state. Great maps and fairly well updated information.
Good product EXCEPT that Delorme repeated an error from previous version. "Points of interest" in Tulsa still mentions Bells Amusement Park. Don't try to go there! It closed some 15 years ago. Boo!
I received my order very quickly. The map seems to be as described and very easy to use. I like that a wax pencil can be used and then cleaned off. Some of the reviews mentioned missing roads and such, I haven't had that problem. What I have realized is this, the publisher utilized old maps to copy from. As it sits, I have no complaints with the map. Should I discover a problem, I will update. I can currently recommend this map. (Even an old map is better than no map, and a laminated map makes a great addition to a SHTFBOB.)
I am pleased with the Oklahoma Atlas and Gazeteer. The only thing I didn't find is a tiny dead-end road that some friends of ours live on. It is just not on the map. But the rest of it is great. Very detailed, shows water features clearly and parks, too. We like to go to country garage and yard sales, and this will be a handy thing to have on hand.
This book is awesome! Want to get around Oklahoma effortlessly? You gotta get this Gazetteer.It is extremely detailed, like none other.Its well worth the money for just one or two trips. PLUS they make these for every state.......I have one for every sate we travel to, all are priceless when on the road!
This atlas is about 11" x 15" and shows a lot of good info about the state in the 67 separate maps included. The maps are at a 1:200,000 scale, which gives some good details. Most roads, lakes, and rivers are named, and the maps use shading and elevation lines to show topography. Actual elevations are not shown, except for mountain peaks, which show names and elevations. Many landmarks are shown, as well as campgrounds and sporting locations. For those who want to learn more about a state, these books are well worth the money.
