This is a great book for anyone who enjoys reading about nature, literature, food, hunting and living an active life. Harrison is truly a master at his craft and I wish he were more prolific. Totally a guy who you could sit down, grab a beer and spend an entire day with, as is evidenced in the work. some of the pieces leave more to be desired and some are a bit lengthy, but overall an excellent read.

Even more poignant now as he so often wrote about death.

Very entertaining , I highly suggest these books !!

i found this i author threw her other series Misfit Pack. i blazed threw this book set in 2days. the characters are fantastic, well developed, and likeable. Oliva discovers many truths about herself and comes to terms with the rest. She's smart and lovable without being irritating. You know its a good book when the last sentence is read but you're not ready for it to end. yes there were a few typos but it never interfered with the story. i wish there was another book letting me check in on these characters and what they have been up to. Actually , it would be very easy to continue on in this series. I have a melancholy feeling and wish there were more to this series... great read hop to it

I read all 4 books in about that number of days. So, as I review them keep that in mind. The first two I literally couldn’t put down. Then the third one started and it was still very fast paced with good characters but was more “dark” than the first two. Still good but there was a “forced” aspect to it that changed it a bit for me. The last one was great in its storyline. It tied everything together nicely. I personally wanted more of a fleshing out of Reilly’s character - however, it would have been a much longer book if she had done that. I think this is a great series. Enjoy.

What a great series! I was so drawn in to the story from the very beginning that it was all I could think about when I couldn’t listen. I love Olivia, she’s a smart cookie and a likable character who goes through a lot of self discovery as a result of well kept family secrets. This book has it all, adventure, mystery, plot twists and of course magic and more magic. Laurel Schroeder as always did an amazing job bringing Olivia’s story to life. Definitely recommend

What an amazing book set! I had already listened to the first two books prior to this release and was so excited I could get the rest all together. Olivia goes through many trials and losses in this series, but comes out the winner in the end. An amazing group of characters and friendships in this book and the narration was fantastic as well! This is a series you will not regret getting.

This series desperately needs editing!! There were times I couldn't focus on the storyline bc there were so many obvious errors. That being said, this series was packed with adventure. I will say I'm very unhappy with the loose ends in the last book. It's upsetting to invest myself in the characters in a series only to have it end with so many questions.

I really enjoyed this book. I was sucked into the story very quickly and became emotionally invested. The books seemed to go quickly and I don't think I would have liked listening to each one individually as it would have broken up the story too much. As a complete series read/listen it was great and I miss hearing about the characters now that it is over.

I loved this series! The world Ms. Foxe created in these books is exciting and fascinating. Magic, mystery, adventure, character growth and twisting plots -- a very engaging read.

It is very well written as it covers every detail you'll need to know to enter the new business journey with confidence. I wish I had this book when I first started, even though it's still not too late to pull out information that I've been missing.

I found this book somewhat helpful, although at times it was a bit hard to follow. I appreciate that unlike many similar books listed here, its not just a long sales pitch on the author's Fool Proof Sales Blog For Dummies, or whatever. This contains actionable information.

Very informative book about how to start an FBA business. From this book as I read it I am making a checklist so that once I start selling in have a plan with pertinent information at my fingertips. Reading it a second time, slowly.

A nice 10,000 foot overview but lacks the detail to make the information actionable for a newbie.

About the Author

Virginia Bell has lectured widely on Alzheimer's disease at national and international conferences, speaking at 12 National Education Conferences of the Alzheimer's Association and lecturing at 18 conferences of Alzheimer's Disease International. Sheâ??s published journal articles and books, notably in Dementia Care: Patient, Family and Community (John Hopkins, 1989). Many of her articles have been reprinted numerous times: "The Alzheimer's Disease Bill of Rights" (1994), "The other Face of Alzheimer's Disease" (1999) and "Spirituality and the Person with Dementia" (2001), co-authored with David Troxel and published in the American Journal of Alzheimer's Disease and in the Alzheimer's Care Quarterly. She has also co-authored five books with David Troxel. Virginia is currently the Program Consultant for the Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

Great reference book. I've been an activities coordinator with folks with Alzheimer's and other dementia. And not having much time for preparation this is such a handy book with the different ways it's categorized. And many of the activities I can do with what I have on hand and the folks love it. It's also a great spring board for ideas.

This book has great ideas for not only group activites but also ind activities. The ideas ae also not expensive.

Lessing documents the nature of the political and cultural milieu of Southern Rhodesia in the mid-fifties. In many ways this is an excellent historical investigation in journalistic prose.My concern is with the book's underlying assumption that that those who left Britain to occupy the colony either became less moral, or were already less moral, than those who stayed behind. Lessing tends to represent those who remained back in Britain as denizens of proper and correct behavior. Life in Africa is thus seen to exert a corrupting influence on otherwise wholesome and correctly mannered British people:"Why was it that when white people came out from Britain, first they were indignant about the colour bar and the treatment of the Africans, and then they very fast became as rude and cruel as the old Rhodesians?" (p162)I feel the book has the quality of being a bit dated for its moralizing perspective."Africa belongs to the Africans" and Europe belongs to the Europeans is the underlying premise of the book -- and although it is unspoken, it comes across in many different ways, such as in the formulation quoted above.What needs to be examined, in order to give a sense of context to the book, is whether attitudes remain automatically "civilized" so long as they do not go abroad.Also, are black Africans not similarly subject to "corruption" by virtue of living in Africa -- or is this corrupting effect of the continent only effective on the whites who have gone there?Lessing's book attempt to teach a moral lesson about colonialism, but leaves these fundamental philosophical questions unanswered.

It is fifty years since Doris Lessing published Going Home, an account of her return to Rhodesia, the country where she grew up. By then in her thirties, she had already achieved the status of restricted person because of her political allegiances and her declared opposition to illiberal white rule. These days Zimbabwe makes the news because of internal strife and oppression. It is worth remembering, however, that fifty years ago the very structures of Southern Rhodesian society were built upon oppression, an oppression based purely on race.Fifty years on Doris Lessing's Going Home an historical record of this noxious system, a record that is more effective, indeed more powerful because of its reflective and observational, rather than analytical style. Doris Lessing, a one-time card-carrying Communist, laid a large slice of the blame for the perpetuation of discrimination firmly at the door of the white working class. Though not all white workers were rich - indeed she records that many were abjectly poor - what they had and sought to preserve was an elevated status relative to the black population. She describes white artisans as white first and artisans second. Though trade unions actively sought equal pay for equal work, they never campaigned for any kind of parity for black workers. On the contrary, they demanded the maintenance of racially differentiated pay rates. How's that for the spirit of socialist internationalism and brotherhood! (I accept there is a misplaced word there...). In fact Doris Lessing records that it was the relatively liberal capitalist enterprises that demanded more black labour, their motive of course arising from cost savings, not philanthropy. So trade unions spent much of their time making sure that companies hired their quota of higher paid, white labour.Even in the 1950s, she remarks on the likelihood that many Africans were already better educated than their white counterparts. White youth shunned education as unnecessary, while Africans saw it as a possible salvation. She notes that the people who treated the African population the worst were recent immigrants from Europe, particularly those from Britain, who tended to be less educated themselves and drawn from the ranks of the politically reactionary. Such people, apparently, were equally critical of immigrants from southern Europe, and expected Spaniards and Greeks to work for African wages, not the white wages that they themselves demanded.The situation in Rhodesia, clearly, had to change. Not only was such crass discrimination unsustainable, it was also comic, as are all racially posited class systems. While the South Africans over the border created honorary whites of the Japanese they increasingly had to do business with, the Rhodesians went through their own equally idiotic contortions. An example of such nonsense is quoted by Doris Lessing when she remarks that there was a privileged group of Africans who were granted the right not to carry passes with them at all times, as long as they carried a pass to record their exemption.But it is also worth remembering that Doris Lessing, herself, was a banned person, unable to travel to certain places and very much under the watchful eyes of the authorities. In Going Home she observes a society that had to collapse under the weight of its unsustainable contradictions. The fact that this took more than twenty years after the book was written was nothing less than a crime, and probably contributed to the subsequent and equally lamentable reaction.Doris Lessing records seeing a British film towards the end of her travels. She describes it as a "cosy little drama of provincial snobberies and homespun moralities played out in front of African farmers in their big cars". Fifty years on, Britain is probably cosy and provincial, and the snobberies are still rife. But now it is not Rhodesia where these reactionaries look down on people of other races overpay and under-educated themselves. It is not in Africa where corporations would dearly love to employ cheaper labour, imported if need be. Rhodesia's white privilege of the 1950s was obviously absurd. But there are some parallels with economic and class relations in the Britain of today and, like all good books, Doris Lessing's Going Home may even add prescience to its qualities.

This book had me hooked by the end of the second short chapter, and apparently I don’t have much willpower, as I devoured the rest in a 24-hour period. The brisk pacing and mystery box format, with deftly handled multiple points of view, are addictive. The main protagonist, Ji Lin, is endearing, as is the houseboy Ren, and I found myself rooting for each through all the twists and turns of their adventures. This is easily my favorite of all the new books I’ve read in the past year. (And no, I did not receive a free advance copy—bought this for myself and am glad I did!)

Interesting plot, like able characters and I must have liked it because I want a sequel. Learning about other cultural beliefs threaded into a suspenseful story.

I read this in one sitting. It took me to another time and place, and I couldn't put it down. And when I reached the end, I had to go back and read it a second time--this time slowly, savoring all my favorite moments.I also read The Ghost Bride, and I enjoyed this one more.

Could not put it down. I swapped between the audio and the kindle and finished it in one go. Even better than the Ghost Bride. Yangsze has the native's grasp of her place, and the time could be from grandparent's tales. But the mystery had me going to the end! The romance was very realistically nuanced as well.

This was such an interesting story line and glimpse into Malaysian culture. This is definitely book club worthy - truly fascinating.

What kind of book is this? It is at once an adventure, a mystery, a romance, a coming of age piece, a cultural exploration, a spiritual drama, a quest. But, whatever you call it, The Night Tiger is just a really, really good story. The character development and scene development were fantastic. I felt as if I was in Malaya, watching real people. The plot was also unique; just when you think you know what will happen, you are wrong. But, what happens still makes sense. It is one of those books that I read quickly, because I wanted to find out what happened, but then I missed Ren and Ji Lin when it was over.

After reading the Ghost Bride I eagerly looked forward to Yangsee Choo’s next book. This book takes place in Malaysia in the 1930’s. The heroine, who works as a dance hostess, is given a mummified finger in a glass bottle. She needs to find the body it belongs to and bury it. Ms Choo is such a captivating writer that this works as a plot device. I read it in 2 days because I didn’t want to put it down.

I liked the story except that the heroine's oblivion to Shin's interest sometimes had me knocking my head against the wall. C'mon, really? But the story and the writing were wonderfully flavored with the Malayan culture, which was a big draw for me. Refreshing to not have to read a cookie-cutter plot with stilted characters. Highly recommend.
